Although the prices are not high, the number of customers has made it profitable. Minh hopes to focus on hair plucking to make up for the decline in demand for other services. Pet care has also been taking off, particularly in the summer as families go on holiday. Prices depend on the the animal's weight; VND90,000 (USD4.28) for an animal weighing 1-10kg, VND130-150,000 (USD6.17.1) for 10-15kg and VND180,0000-200,000 (USD8.57-9.52) any animal over 15kg. Higher fees can be charged for extra care, such as better quality food, daily walks, playgrounds and even air-conditioned rooms. Apple fined $2.29 mln over Australian \'4G\' iPad

Apple was Thursday fined Aus$2.25 million (US$2.29 million) for "deliberately" misleading Australian consumers about the local 4G capability of its next-generation iPad. "It exposed a significant proportion of Australian consumers of tablet devices to a misleading representation." Apple offered in March to refund customers who felt they had been duped, and to publish a clarification about the popular tablet's capabilities. The product is now advertised outside North America as "Wi-Fi + Cellular" -- a change that came into effect on May 12 -- with a clear caveat on its Australian site that "it is not compatible with current Australian 4G LTE and WiMax networks." Earlier this month, the company agreed to settle the case with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, which initiated the proceedings. But Bromberg had refused to make an official ruling until he had details on how many iPads had been sold and were returned under the refund offer and further information on Apple's financial position. He said Thursday the risk of contravening Australian consumer law would have been "reasonably obvious" to Apple. "In that context, and in the absence of any other explanation, the facts to which I have just referred suggest that Apple's desire for global uniformity was given a greater priority than the need to ensure compliance with the Australian consumer law," he said. "Conduct of that kind is serious and unacceptable." The iPad was the world's best-selling tablet in the first three months of 2012, outgunning its Android-powered rivals, with sales more than doubling from a year earlier to send Apple's profits soaring. Stricter rules for low-income housing

Hynix enters SSD business

Hynix, a well-known Taiwanese memory maker, has finally decided to enter the SSD business, which is not a surprising decision given that the company makes own memory chips. So here's the first Hynix SSD drive – the SH910 – which comes in a 2.5-inch form factor and a thin chassis – just 7 mm – all based on the company's own MLC NAND flash memory. The Hynix SH910 also features the infamous SandForce SF-2281 controller, SMART, TRIM and NCQ technologies and (!) 128-bit AES encryption – note that due to the problems with 256-bit encryption the SandForce SF-2281 controller is no longer labelled as supporting 256-bit encryption. Investors flagrantly abuse insider trading loopholes

Lax management of the local securities market is creating opportunities for investors to violate the law. With the changes, Minh and Sai Gon-Asia Financial Investment JSC stocks dropped to below 5%, and were no longer Sacombank major shareholders, meaning they can sell their remaining shares without making a public announcement. Answering the criticisms of being slow, the HCMC Stock Exchange said Sacombank's legal representatives had not responded until May 29. However the management agencies took no action during three months of blatant transactions that raised suspicions among the investors. By the end of March, the HCMC Stock Exchange fined the chairman of Hanoi Investment General Corporation, Dinh Hong Long, VND40 million (US1,916) for allegedly selling his shares in secret. In 2011, Long sold nearly 1.4 million shares, sending the price of company shares down from VND20,000 (USD0.96) to VND1,600 (USD0.08). Many companies' shareholders also violated the same laws such as the major shareholder of Khanh Hoi Import-Export JSC who bought 264,940 shares or the head accountant of Hanoi Maritime Holding Company who sold 100,000 shares. Sacombank also recently bought 1,041,500 shares from the SPM Corporation and became its major shareholder. A shareholder of Ba Ria-Vung Tau Urban Development and Construction Corporation sold 120,000 shares before the company's registered information for online transactions was announced. However the fines for these cases are considered too low. Vuong Dinh Hue, Minister of Finance ordered the city's Stock Exchange to provide a report of the problems. He said punishments would also be delivered to state agencies which were slow in dealing with the issues. Investors who have complained of these types of transactions for many years, welcomed the news. They want their rights to be protected in such cases. Currently, the maximum penalties for manipulating stock prices and for internal transaction is VND300 million (USD14,374), while misleading or concealing information is VND500 million (USD23,957). But in reality, the penalties are only counted in the tens of millions of VND which is too small compared to the profits the violators earn. City’s tourism dept says hotels are struggling

The number of inbound tourist arrivals in HCM City picked up slightly in the early months but hotels are struggling with lower occupancy rates, said a report of the HCMC Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Tourist accommodation service providers run into more problems than last year due to surging input costs including higher prices of power, water and specialized materials at hotels, coupled with higher salaries and interest rates. Meanwhile, hotels have to keep their room tariffs unchanged or even quote lower prices to lure customers. The HCMC Tourism Association shared the same view on the troubled hotel sector. In addition, the association expressed a not-so-optimistic view on the travel sector. Specifically, the domestic tourism has yet to achieve any significant growth although the tourism stimulus program has been carried out. "This time last year, everyone was proudly talking about their growths, but this year enterprises are bemoaning decline in the number of customers," said Nguyen Thi Khanh, vice chairwoman of the tourism association. Similarly, Nguyen Viet Hung, general director of Fiditourist, said the travel business of his company plunged drastically in the first two months of the year with a sharp drop in the number of customers. The company cannot comment on the summer tourism season yet. "Thanks to Reunification Day on April 30 and International Labor Day on May 1, our company recorded growth in the first half of 2012, but the outlook for the whole year is not so positive. Retailers ignore price listing rule

The pilot system for street trading requiring the use of listed prices on Ba Trieu Street, in Hanoi, seems not to have been effective, as many retailers have ignored the regulation. Not all clothes have a price tags District authorities have informed all local traders about the programme. Since June 15 any stores caught violating the new rules will be subject to administrative sanctions. Still, on the afternoon of June 16, many stores had failed to comply. Large stores in the commercial centre have been quick to list prices of their products, while a number of smaller stores used price tags but did not honour them. Numerous clothes shops on the street did not even bother putting on false price tags. Shop owners claimed that their items were so cheap that they did not require tags, and that it would be too labour intensive to use them. The owner of a coffee shop where drinks were listed but food was not, said "Food prices fluctuate all the time. We'd have a lot of trouble explaining to customers why prices have gone up if we added prices to the food menu." One furniture store on Ba Trieu Street priced their items in chalk. Others hung signs outside with one price for all products. However, once inside, prices varied, and some were not marked at all, leaving customers to bargain. Stores selling expensive items like motorbikes were also in violation of the regulation. A bike shop owner at 190 Ba Trieu Street said, "We are waiting to see how other shops react to this new regulation. However, listing prices isn't an effective way to protect consumers. Prices among shops selling same products can differ anywhere from tens of thousands of VND to several of hundred thousand. If customers don't shop around they will end up paying high prices." A shop owner who sells roasted peanuts also complained about the rule, saying, "Even though we sell the same thing every day, prices differ between wholesale and retail sales.
