Vietnam opposes Chinese fishing in Truong Sa archipelago

Chinese fishermen's activities around the Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago are illegal and violate Vietnam's sovereignty over this archipelago. ASEAN regrets AMM-45’s joint statement failure

Together with other ASEAN countries, the Vietnamese delegation regrets that the 45th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM-45) in Cambodia failed to issue its joint statement. Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Vinh was speaking on July 13 in response to Vietnamese reporters' question on the failure to issue the conference's joint statement. The statement is expected to reflect the process of discussion and positive outcomes reached in meetings of ASEAN and between ASEAN and its partners, according to Vinh. Millions of pre-paid subscribers face risk of information re-registration

Millions of pre-paid mobile phone subscribers belonging to the Viettel, MobiFone and VinaPhone networks in HCM City may have to re-register their personal information. The Ministry of Information and Communications has transferred the personal information of five million pre-paid subscribers to the Ho Chi Minh City Police who will be checking to see if the information submitted is correct. Those who are found to have supplied incorrect information will be required to re-register. The work will be carried out by the police over three months. Checks have already been carried on pre-paid subscribers of Viettel, MobiFone and VinaPhone in Hanoi and Danang which found that around 1.3 million or 25% of all those checked had provided inaccurate personal information. A representative from a large mobile phone operator said that getting subscribers in Hanoi and Danang to re-register had been difficult. Researchers pave the way to 50-petabyte storage devices

German scientists at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) have achieved a new technological feat in the never-ending quest for more and more storage capacity. In a few words they were able to store a single bit of information in a single molecule thus paving the way to storage devices with capacities of 50 petabytes and more. Construction Ministry moves to save low-income housing projects

The Ministry of Construction has asked the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) to appraise and provide capital for seven low-income housing projects. The projects include project N05 at Dang Xa, Gia Lam District in Hanoi, invested by Viglacera with a total capital of VND874.7 billion (USD41.6 million), and Hanh Phuc Apartment project in Binh Chanh District, HCM City invested by Construction Corporation No. 1. The others are a project in Vinh Yen City, Vinh Phuc Province, invested by Vietnam Construction and Import-export JS Corporation (VND244.7 billion); An Trung 2 residential area in Son Tra District, Danang City, jointly invested by Civil Engineering and Investment JS Company 579 and Duc Manh JS Company (VND187 billion), and a project in Long My District, Hau Giang Province (VND53 billion) by H&B Company. Among these projects, two have been delayed due to capital shortages. The ministry has urged the project investors to apply for loans directly from branches of BIDV. ASEAN+1 meetings with 10 partners

The ASEAN+1 Foreign Ministers Meetings with 10 ASEAN partners took place in Phnom Penh on July 11. FM Pham Binh Minh co-chairs the ASEAN-China meeting Vietnamese FM Pham Binh Minh attended all meetings and co-chaired the ASEAN-China meeting as coordinator of the bilateral relations. At the ASEAN-Australia Foreign Ministers Meeting, both sides underscored the necessity to effectively implement the second phase of the ASEAN-Australia Development Cooperation Programme (2008-2015) and the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA). The two sides appreciated the activities to mark the 20th anniversary of the ASEAN-India dialogue relation establishment. At the ASEAN-Russia Foreign Ministers Meeting, the FMs agreed to continue implementing effectively the Comprehensive Programme of Action for 2005-2015, suggested to consider the possibility of establishing ASEAN-Russia Business Council as well as the bilateral Free Trade Area to strengthen trade and investment cooperation. The countries also agreed to keep cooperating in energy, scientific technology, terrorism prevention, trans-national criminal and disaster management. At the ASEAN-the Republic of Korea (RoK) Foreign Ministers Meeting, the ministers were unanimous to boost the effective implementation of the 201-2015 Action Plan, implement the Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity, and applauded the establishment of the Permanent Delegation at ASEAN by the RoK. They agreed to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, forestry, culture, education and disaster management as well as cooperation between the Mekong-RoK cooperation in the time to come. They also vowed to speed up the effective implementation of the list of actions for the 2011-2013 period within the framework of the Action Plan to implement the Declaration on the ASEAN– EU Enhanced Partnership and agreed to promptly build a list of actions to carry out the Action Plan for the 2013-2017 period, which was adopted at the ASEAN-EU Foreign Ministers Meeting in Brunei in April.
